Nicholas Devison

I trained at Wimbledon School of Art and completed my MA in Fine Art Printmaking at Camberwell College of Art in 2000. I have contributed to exhibitions and conferences on a national and international basis and have work represented in a number of collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. I have taught in art schools for a number of years and from 2001 to 2013 was Course Leader for MA Fine Art and MA Printmaking at Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge. I moved with my family to Scotland in 2013 and now live and work near Edinburgh.

In recent work I have manipulated found imagery in an attempt to elaborate new patterns of meaning from disparate and sometimes fragmented source material.  The images, many of which allude to the history of technology, from cosmological diagrams to renaissance perspectival illustration, are reimagined as a means of exploring ideas of location, mapping, time and space.

I have curated a number of shows including Viewfinder which brought together the research interests of artists whose work engaged with assumed readings of the digital and photographic image. The project embraced a wide range of practice from traditional through digital and brought together academics from Anglia Ruskin, Oxford Brooks, Northampton Universities and UAL's LCC, and Camberwell College of Arts. Viewfinder toured on an international basis travelling to Seoul, South Korea; Melbourne, Australia; Northampton and Cambridge UK. In support of this exhibition I chaired a symposium with speakers Professor Paul Coldwell and Gill Saunders (Senior Curator of Prints at the V&A).

I contributed to the last three IMPACT International Printmaking exhibitions and conferences: chairing a panel discussion in Tallinn 2007, addressing the status of printmaking within fine art pedagogy and curated Provenance at University of the West of England Bristol in 2009 and Viewfinder for Monash University Melbourne in 2011. Other recent exhibitions include the International Northern Print Biennale Newcastle 2011, Bite London 2011, Seventh International Miniprint Triennial 2011 and Penang International Print Exhibition 2010.
